Revolution Tour
The Haitian Revolution has often been described as the largest and most successful slave rebellion in the Western Hemisphere. It is certainly the only servile uprising that led to the creation of an independent nation, Haiti. Slaves initiated the rebellion in 1791, and by 1803, they had succeeded in ending not just slavery but French control over the colony. The Haitian Revolution, however, was much more complex, consisting of several revolutions going on simultaneously. These revolutions were influenced by the French Revolution of 1789, which would come to represent a new concept of human rights, universal citizenship, and participation in government.

But how do you separate the facts from so much fiction, rumors, and superstitions?
Join Tap Tap Tours as we seek to illuminate one of Little Haiti's most unique subcultures. From its roots in West Africa to the modern-day places of honoring inside Little Haiti, we will explore the history, culture, and beliefs of both historical and current practitioners. Along the way, our guide will explain the truth behind the more popular superstitions and the meaning within some of the stranger rituals. Vertier Tour
The Battle of Vertieres (Kreyòl: Batay Vètyè) was a defining campaign in the Haitian Revolution that took place on November 18, 1803. It was the decisive battle in which the Indigenous Army of Saint Domingue defeated Napoleon's French army, which had been sent to the island to re-establish slavery. This victory led Haiti to become the first black nation to win its independence by force against colonizers. News of this victory consequently rippled across the western hemisphere and influenced the struggle for the liberation of slaves in many colonies and plantations, with support from the Green Family Foundation.
